FAQs

What time do I need to drop off and pick up my child each day?

The school day starts at 8:45 a.m. Monday through Friday for Middle School students. High School students begin class at 8:00 a.m. Monday through Friday. Please drop off your child at least 15 minutes before the start of school so they do not miss important items during their advisory time.

How do I apply for early release for work or an internship?

Milwaukee Excellence partners with many of the area’s top employers to allow students to apply the knowledge they learned and gain firsthand experience. Juniors and Seniors over the age of 16 may apply for work release for internships and after-school jobs. In some instances, these opportunities can qualify for credits. Please note, work permits are required. Forms can be picked up in the front office.

How can I apply for a work permit?

Milwaukee Excellence is able to issue a work permit to students to support them in obtaining employment. MX reserves the right to deny a work permit to a student if there is a concern about the impact that after school employment may have on the student’s academic performance based on GPA, attendance, or other factors as determined by the School Principal.

In order to obtain a work permit, the student or parent must submit the following items:

  • Minor’s birth certificate or other proof of age

  • Minor’s social security card

  • Letter from the employer expressing intent to hire, on employer’s regular letterhead, describing job duties and hours of work

  • Written parent consent

  • $10.00 permit fee–paid online via the Phoenix Shop portal (note: fee should be reimbursed on minor’s first paycheck)

Items may be submitted in person (fee must be paid online) or sent via email to ericka.watkins@mkeexcellence.org

Two copies of the work permit will be issued; one copy for the minor and one copy to be given to the employer. Milwaukee Excellence will also keep a copy of the work permit in the students cumulative file. There is a 48 hour processing time for work permits to be issued.
